When you add a document:

Content Extraction - Text is pulled from PDFs, Word docs, HTML
Chunking - Documents are split into searchable passages (500-1000 characters)
Embedding - Each passage is converted to a semantic vector for meaning-based search
Indexing - Everything is added to your searchable knowledge base
